Your kitchen scraps help us make dirt!

Curious about compost? Community members bring us kitchen scraps and deposit them in the white buckets just outside our fence.  We have a 4 bin compost system which we dig out at least once a week and then layer in the scraps & coffee grounds together with dry leaves. Do you want to help us compost? We always welcome more!

Yes:

  • veggie scraps, fruit peels, almost everything plant-based (see exceptions below)
  • coffee grounds & tea bags
  • egg shells

No:

  • meat or dairy
  • citrus
  • hard nut shells, avocado pits (these take too long to break down)

We use this dirt to plant everything in our garden which adds nutrients back in to the soil.

The compost pile is usually open early on Saturday mornings if you want to come by and see how it works, or we welcome scraps in the buckets at our front gate at your convenience.

Thank you for helping us grow!

We’ve planted an OKRA forest… and our monthly meeting is coming up

IMG_4058

We’ve planted dozens of okra plants to take us through the summer. We’ve even harvested a couple of okra! And so it begins…

Join us for our May planning meeting at 6:30pm on Monday, May 15th.  We meet at the Seminole Heights Branch Library located at the corner of Osborne and Central.  This month we’ll likely discuss fundraising for the garden, and we’re open to hearing ideas both new and tried-and-true. So please join us Monday to share your thoughts!  Everyone is welcome!

Help us Celebrate our Birthday!

Earth DayJoin us on Earth Day, April 22nd, as we host our open house and birthday celebration. If you haven’t been by lately, come take a tour before the garden goes (mostly) dormant for the summer. We’ll be open starting at 10am and will give out little seedlings as long as they last. It’s our birthday gift to you, our community.

We hope to see you then!

When you can find us, and where

Our Google calendar feeding the calendar to the right is a little wonky at the moment. >>>

We’re hoping it will all straighten out after the upcoming change to Daylight Savings Time this Sunday, 3/12/2017.  You didn’t forget, did you?

We’re in the garden at 6011 Highland most Saturdays from 9am – 12pm – stop by and visit if you see a member working in the garden.  And our monthly planning meeting is Monday, March 20th at 6:30pm (not 5:30!).

Join us!

Our monthly garden planning meeting is Monday February 20th @ 6:30pm

A reminder that our garden planning meeting is Monday, February 20th at 6:30 pm at the Seminole Heights Branch Library (SE corner of Central Avenue and Osborne). Yes, we checked and the library is open!

Please save your small yogurt cups!  We’re going to plan an Earth Day/birthday celebration in April, and we’d like to be able to give away seedlings in those cups.  We’ll discuss this and other projects on Monday evening.

We schedule the evening of the third Monday of each month to discuss all pertinent topics related to keeping our garden bountiful and our organization thriving. Everyone is welcome.

Please join us!
