All hands needed!

Saturday, August 30th at 8:00am

We need as much help as we can get at the garden on Highland this Saturday. We need to change a few things in order to be in compliance for the city’s inspection. Please join us this weekend to move the mulch away from the trees, move the compost bin and a few other routine tasks. Bring pitchforks, gloves, water and your smiling face!

The loss of our feisty girl

2014-08-20 15.42.43Today we lost our beloved hen Curtis. We discovered an animal breeched the cage and took her from us. We returned her body to the earth and removed Bella until we can build her a safer coup. For those of you who never met Curtis, she was a feisty hen that made her way to our garden through Denise Moore and Alex Spassoff.  She showed up one day at Denise and Alex’s office and they took her in off the street. The members of the garden gave her a good home and forgave her for her sometimes bloody love pecks. Rest in peace Curtis. You will be missed.

Reminder: General Meeting Monday

Just a friendly reminder there is a general member meeting on July 21, 2014 from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Seminole Heights Library, Room # 105. All active members are encouraged to join us. We will have some exciting new updates so please join us. No food or drinks allowed (with the exception of water).

Thanks for your hard work!

Last Saturday we had a great turn out to help with our routine tasks at the garden on Violet:  Marc turned the dirt, Edgar turned the compost, Cindy gave the hen house a luxury makeover, Marilyn planted squash and peas (thanks for donating the peas!), Ellen brought treats for the hens and helped Linda with some general maintenance items.  LIB was in paradise and we wrapped up our day about eleven thirty. Thanks so much for all of your hard work!

Rain Barrel Workshop

We are planning to have a rain barrel workshop in August and we are looking to hear from you! Please contact us if you are interested in attending and tell us which date would work better for you. We have two dates in mind:  August 2nd or August 23rd. The workshop will be conducted by the Hillsborough County Extension Service at the 6011 Highland Avenue garden location. Email us: info.shcg@gmail.com

New Member Orientation

We will have a new member orientation at the garden on Violet this Saturday, June 21st at 9am. We will be giving mini talks on the various duties around the garden and the established committees that help keep our garden growing. We are also looking for volunteers to be Garden Supervisors. We will give more detail about what is needed for this role during orientation.

For those who came out last weekend, we appreciate your willingness to help. We had a little bit of confusion and assure you we are working to get things more organized moving forward.

Please don’t forget to bring your own water to stay hydrated. We look forward to seeing you!
